Wall

Title:  Wall

Author/Illustrator: Tom Clohosy Cole/Tom Clohosy Cole

APA Citation: Cole, T. C. (2014). Wall. Somerville, MA: Candlewick Press.

Lexile Score: AD480L- Recommended adult read to child (Ages 4-8)

Target Audience: Although the suggested age range was 4-8, I believe that one of the images and the concept behind the building of the wall would be better for ages 8 and up.  With a good plot line and historical accuracy, I believe it would be a great book to inspire critical thinking of a variety of topics.

Summary: This story depicted the tragedy of one family's struggle with being separated by the Berlin Wall.  With his father stuck on one side, and his family trapped on the other, the boy in the story took action into his own hands and risked his life digging a hole to the other side.  When he was finished, he led his family to the hole, and was even able to convince a guard to let them pass.
